Capitals Open Hockey Regular Season With Weekend Sweep

The Oahe Capitals’ 2013-14 regular season got off to a great start following home opening wins over Huron and Sioux Falls.

On opening night Friday, the Capitals took an easy 8-0 win over Huron in a game never in doubt.  Cash Anderson led the offensive attack with a goal and three assists, while Will Gordon and Alec Norwick each contributed two goals and an assist.  Tim Fuerst stopped all 16 shots he faced to get the shutout in goal.

Saturday the Capitals anticipated a much tougher contest against visiting Sioux Falls.  However, Bo Atkins and Landon Badger each score goals within the opening three minutes of the game and Oahe remained in control throughout in a surprisingly easy 6-0 nothing win.  After sitting out Friday night’s game due to a suspension carried over from last season, the Capitals welcomed Atkins back to the lineup as he scored two goals and added two assists.  Brandon Swenson had three assists on the night, Riley Bren a goal and an assist and Landon Badger two goals as part of a balanced Capitals scoring attack.  The other half of the Oahe goalkeeping tandem, Alex Meagher, stopped 10 shots to match the shutout effort of his counterpart from the night before.

The Capitals are in action at home again next weekend when they host Mitchell at 7:15 p.m. Saturday night.
